The Programs

A Full Belly
Friday, October 9, 2009

Long ago, you couldn’t just go to the grocery store for food. It took hard work, patience and luck to guarantee a full belly. Lend a hand harvesting crops, help with hearth cooking, and learn how people trapped and hunted wild game.

A Roof Over Your Head
Friday, November 20, 2009

Discover the skills and teamwork necessary to create your own shelter from natural materials like wood and earth. Practice making bricks, get your hands dirty as you chink and daub a log cabin, and learn how to read the story of a house by looking at its walls.

A Shirt on Your Back
Friday, March 12, 2010

Imagine if getting a new outfit began with planting seeds or giving a sheep a haircut! Watch the farmer shear a sheep, try your hand at transforming flax straw into linen, and strut your stuff in historic clothing.

An Apple a Day
Friday, May 14, 2010

If you lived long ago, how would you recover from a dangerous fever, a deep cut, or a painful burn? Create herbal remedies from plants gathered on the farm, view doctor’s tools that will make you shudder, and learn about the complex medical beliefs that guided healers in the past.
