My Heart in a Suitcase
3rd Grade–Adult
While every student in America learns about World War II, not many people these days remember the Kindertransport. In 1938, as the Nazi rise to power began to spell a darker and darker fate for Jews, thousands of Jewish children were sent to Britain out of Germany, Poland, Czechoslovakia, and Austria. These children were forced to leave behind their parents, their homes, and everything they knew and loved. Anne L. Fox was one of these children. She left on the Kindertransport when she was twelve years old. Years later, she would record her experiences in a book called My Heart in a Suitcase. This original and compelling drama is based on Ms. Fox’s moving autobiography.
