Spirits & Stories: Brattonsville by Twilight

Get Spooked with Tales of York County History and Folklore

Saturday, October 20th from 4:00-9:00pm

On Saturday, October 20, at 4 pm Historic Brattonsville will launch an inaugural ghost event Spirits & Stories: Brattonsville by Twilight. Tim Lowry, from Summerville, SC, a touring artist and favorite performer at Rock Hill’s Patchwork Storytelling Festival, will be a featured storyteller.

Lowry mixes tales of the American Revolution, the Civil War and the Western Frontier with stories growing up Baptist, teaching English to Russian immigrants, exciting road trips to Disney World, baseball, hotdogs, apple pie, and Chevrolet. This dynamic storyteller has performed in hundreds of venues and festivals such as the Piccolo Spoleto Festival, South Carolina Storyfest and the North Carolina Storytelling Festival.

At Spirits & Stories:  Brattonsville by Twlight, Tim will tell magical and mysterious stories from the 18th and 19th century to listeners gathered around a campfire. At night fall, visitors can decide whether they would like to go on candlelight walking tours of the historic grounds and uncover the dark tales of Brattonsville’s past.  Listen to tales of true stories, events, and of people that led to many popular ghost legends in York County.

Other activities will include classic Halloween crafts and games, Harvest festival cooking demonstrations, and a children’s Halloween costume contest (5:30 pm). The first set of tours will begin at 6:00 pm followed by a session of ghost stories.  A second round of thrilling stories will begin at 7:30pm.

Historic Brattonsville Interpreters will tell haunting legends of  the Fishing Creek Witch, Slave Watt’s Funeral, Boiling Huck’s Bones and the Loyalist Sentry in the Woods.  Be sure to bring your own flashlight.  Tour space is limited, so call to make your tour reservations.  This event is recommended for families.  Evening tours are for folks age 12 to adult.  Chilli, fire-roasted hot dogs, and marshmallows will make the evening of haunted tales and games a fun-spooked-filled family outing.

Historic Brattonsville is located at 1444 Brattonsville Road, McConnells, SC.  For more information about the event visit www. chmuseums.org.  Call  803.684.2327 to schedule your tour.
