YORK, SC – The McCelvey Center Southern Sound Series continues with a performance byRuthie Foster on Saturday, February 23 at 7:30pm at the McCelvey Center’s Lowry Family Theater,212 E. Jefferson St., York, South Carolina.  From Gause, Texas, much-admired American singer-songwriter of blues and folk music, Ruthie Foster has made a name for herself.  From humble churchgospel choir beginnings to Top 40 cover tunes with the US Navy Band, Foster’s eclectic musical history forms the foundation for her combustible blend ofsoul, blues, rock, folk and gospel.  Compared to Ella Fitzgerald and Aretha Franklin, this extraordinary performer was been nominated for a 2010 GrammyAward for Best Contemporary Blues Album for “The Truth According to Ruthie Foster” and her album “Let It Burn,” featuring The Blind Boys of Alabama andsoul legend William Bell was nominated for the 2012 Grammy Award for Best Blues Album of the Year. She is a multiple Blues Music Award winner, receivingthe KoKo Taylor Award for Traditional Female Artist of the Year in 2011 and 2012.  Ruthie Foster is an engaging live performer, wowing audiences with her powerful voice and stylistic range. The performance at McCelvey is Foster’s lastperformance in America before embarking on a month-long tour in New Zealand and Australia.
