Yorkville Female Institute and York Graded School


State Historical Marker Dedication


Saturday, March 16, 2013 | 11am


 


York, SC – The Yorkville Historical Society and the Culture & Heritage Museums will commemorate the history of the Yorkville Female Institute and the York Graded School at a public ceremony on Saturday, March 16 at 11:00 am at the McCelvey Center, 212 East Jefferson Street in York.  Former McCelvey students, staff, volunteers and supporters are encouraged to attend.  Guest speakers will be Mayor of York, Eddie Lee; former Congressman, John Spratt; former principal, Bill Plaxco and former York High band director and first director of McCelvey Center; John Bostic.  Special music will be provided by York Comprehensive High School wind ensemble and concert choir.  Following the unveiling of the marker, visitors can enjoy refreshments and historical exhibits.  A commemorative booklet will distributed at the ceremony.


The State Historical Marker is presented by the Yorkville Historical Society and the Culture & Heritage Museums.  The event is sponsored by Rock Hill Coca Cola Bottling Company, Stacy’s Greenhouse and Garden Center and York School District 1.
