An Artful Weekend at the Museum of York County Celebrating

A Life in the Forest:  The Paintings of Sallie Middleton

March 9 and 10, 2013

Rock Hill, SC – The artistic vision and observations of nature by artist Sallie Middleton continues to delight visitors to the Museum of York County.  A series of art-based programs to accompany the exhibition has been scheduled for the weekend of Saturday, March 9 and Sunday, March 10, 2013.  The Middleton exhibit will be on view through March 31, 2013.

On Saturday, March 9 at 10:30am, author and illustrator Helen Correll will speak about nature journaling and her book, Middlewood Journal:  Drawing Inspiration from Nature.  Following this 30-minute program, participants will be able to purchase a signed copy of her book in the museum store ($19.95 plus tax). To learn more about the book visit http://middlewoodjournalblogspot.com. This book makes a great gift for gardeners, nature lovers and garden club speakers.  Artists are encouraged to bring drawing materials and sketch from the Museum’s extensive collections.  The program is FREE with general museum admission.

On Sunday, March 10 at 3:00pm, Asheville Art Museum’s School & Family Program Manager, Erin Shope, will lead a tour through the gallery exploring the original Middleton watercolors. Middleton’s exquisitely detailed renderings of plants and animals offer authentic portrayals of the native wildlife of the Carolinas.  The selection of over 30 paintings encompasses Middleton’s work from the 1970s through 1980s and offers insights into the life, talent and imagination of one of the most gifted realistic painters in the Carolinas.  FREE

A Life in the Forest:  The Paintings of Sallie Middleton was organized by the Asheville Art Museum with support provided by the Frugal Framer, John Cram and Matt Chambers, Ray Griffin and Thom Robinson, www.salliemiddletonart.net, www.salliemiddleton.com, www.mansfieldplantation.com, Mikell Middleton Howington and an anonymous gift.
