Christmas Candlelight Tours at Historic Brattonsville
DECEMBER 7 & 14 from 3 pm to 9 pm

McConnells, SC – Walk the candlelit paths of Historic Brattonsville and experience a Southern-style Christmas in the Carolina backcountry. Feel transported back in history as costumed interpreters tell the stories of people who lived here long ago. Meet the new settlers, plantation owners and enslaved African Americans as they bring to life the holiday seasons of the 18th and 19th centuries.


Christmas Candlelight Tours will feature 5 theatrical venues throughout the site. Each vignette will show getting ready for Christmas and setting up a holiday party; or the lack of. The running theme will be on the joy and excitement of Christmas, as well as, examining where most of the holiday’s traditions originated and how they came to be enjoyed by the people living in the Carolina Piedmont. This year we will begin our journey in the year of 1840, in the Homestead, and travel back in time, ending in 1780, with a Tavern Party celebrating the recent American victories against the British.


This historic holiday event is sure to become a tradition for your family. A historically dressed Saint Nicholas, will sharing the history of Santa Claus and taking last minute requests from the child in all of us. From 3 to 6 pm, you will be able to dip your own candle, make paper ornaments and string a popcorn garland. Guest will be able to enjoy listening to the Brass Quartet as they play traditional Christmas melodies from 6 to 9 pm. You will find unique Christmas gifts and period-style items at the Gift Shop. The Friends of Historic Brattonsville will have hot drinks, seasonal foods, and home-baked goods available for purchase.


Special Information: Historic Brattonsville will be closed the day of the events until 3:00pm. Brattonsville Rd. will be closed from 2:30 pm to 9:00 pm - Please look for and follow detour signs.
