Singer/Songwriter Suzy Bogguss to wrap up the 2014 Southern Sound Series at the McCelvey

YORK, SC – Grammy award-winning and Platinum selling artist Suzy Bogguss will wrap up the 2014 Southern Sound Series at the McCelvey Center on April 5. Known for her crystal-clear voice, Bogguss is a well-respected musician with a versatile range that includes country, folk, Americana Roots and a dose of swing and jazz. Bogguss will be promoting her thirteenth and most recent album, “Lucky.” Released in February 2014, “Lucky” is a tribute to country music legend, Merle Haggard. Bogguss refers to Haggard as “the poet of the common man” and imparts an interesting feminine twist to his rough-hewn story-telling style.

Bogguss scored her first hit with a cover of Merle Haggard’s “Somewhere Between” in 1989 and trailed that success as the 1990 recipient of the Academy of Country Music’s top New Female Singer of the Year. In 2011 Suzy released “American Folk Songbook” a 17-song CD and hardcover book with stories and sheet music. Bogguss began her musical career as the first female performer featured at the newly-created theme park Dollywood in 1986.

The 2014 Southern Sound Series is presented by the Friends of McCelvey in the McCelvey Center’s  Lowry Family Theater. Noted for its remarkable acoustics, the historic theater seats over 500 guests and has a lovely 1920s ambiance.  For more information, please visit www.chmuseums.org.
