What’s Bugging Belva?

The Museum of York County’s new exhibit “What’s Bugging Belva?” teaches the importance of insects.

ROCK HILL, SC – “What’s Bugging Belva?” is a delightful travelling exhibit for all ages that opens on Saturday, June 7th at the Museum of York County. The summer-long exhibition features fun, hands-on, interactive sets that engage children and encourages them to learn about bugs and their habitats. “What’s Bugging Belva?” is designed to read like a storybook that has come-to-life in a garden and allows visitors to enter the amazing world of bugs to discover why all bugs are important in nature’s cycle of life.

On Saturday, June 14th the Museum of York County will host a Family Fun Day as a “What’s Bugging Belva?” special event. From 10 a.m. - 2 p.m. families are invited to come participate in special activities that highlight the incredible insects that live around us! Activities include creating a watercolor butterfly, making a beautiful buggy bookmark, visiting the Naturalist Center to test your Insect-IQ and playing Insect Bingo.

Museum of York County’s Settlemyre Planetarium will present a new show in conjunction with “What’s Bugging Belva?” A short animated film geared toward young children, “Moles: What is Out There?” will premiere on Family Fun Day at 11 a.m. and will be a daily planetarium show throughout the summer. The film is about Plato, a curious young mole, who manages to get a glimpse of the moon and stars. The Settlemyre Planetarium will also have some fun with ultraviolet light on Family Fun Day and visitors can experience what flowers might look like from an insect’s perspective.
