The Museum of York County announces a summer-long itinerary with a dinosaur theme:
“Dinosaur Revolution Maze” kicks off on June 11 with “Dinosaur Family Day”
ROCK HILL, SC – The Museum of York County will offer adventures throughout the summer for young aspiring paleontologists, geologists and astronomers. Centered on “Dinosaur Revolution Maze,” an interactive learning experience within a maze setting, a variety of dinosaur-themed activities and educational programs will be featured throughout the natural history museum from June 11 – Sept. 10, 2016.
“Dinosaur Revolution Maze” is an interactive maze that is mentally and physically engaging; the maze offers a fun, hands-on way to explore the fascinating prehistoric world of dinosaurs. Staged in the Museum of York County’s Springs Gallery and auditorium, the maze encompasses the 150 million years that dinosaurs ruled the Earth. “Dinosaur Revolution Maze” is a traveling exhibition produced by Minotaur Mazes of Seattle, Washington.
Providing a local connection, the Museum of York County will also present a selection of fossils, models and graphics highlighting dinosaurs that once roamed the Carolina Piedmont region. The museum’s dinosaur-themed itinerary features special planetarium shows, Wonderful Wednesday and Dino-mite Friday programs. New museum exhibitions include dinosaur art created by first graders at Mt. Gallant Elementary School and the museum’s new meteorite collection, which features a special loan from the Smithsonian Institution of a meteorite that fell near Spartanburg, SC in 1933. The Museum of York County’s “Dinosaur Revolution Maze” was made possible in part through a donation from Harry and ‘Becca Dalton.
“Dinosaur Family Day,” an opening event on June 11th from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., will feature special activities, crafts, a dinosaur costume parade and a traveling science center with live reptiles. Meteorite expert John Fendley will be on site for a show-and-tell of his personal meteorite collection. Food will be available for purchase.
