Christmas Candlelight Tours highlight the origins of Carolina Backcountry holiday traditions
MCCONNELLS, SC - Historic Brattonsville’s antebellum estate opens its doors for the annual Christmas Candlelight Tours. Historically dressed interpreters portray how the holidays were celebrated on the plantation during the 18th and 19th centuries. Traditionally a time reserved for solemn reflection, Christmas merriment prevails for the Brattonsville community as the 19th century unfolds. Guests are invited to the homestead’s Christmas party for dancing and live music of the era.
Christmas Candlelight Tours feature visits from Father Christmas and ongoing live period music. From 3-6 p.m. hands-on activities for all ages include candle-dipping, scherenschitte (paper cutting,) stringing popcorn and decorating the tree with handmade ornaments.
Unique shopping opportunities on Dec. 3 will feature the glass-blown artisan works of Knightingales & Gilson. Historic Brattonsville's Gift Shop will be well stocked with holiday items and locally made goods.
The Bratton Arms Tavern will be open and hearty food by the Friends of Brattonsville will be available for purchase.
