Original Vernon Grant paintings on display in new interactive exhibit at the Museum of York County

And it’s time to kick off the holiday season with the 2022 Vernon Grant Holiday Ornament and Card Debut

ROCK HILL, S.C. – The 2022 Vernon Grant Holiday Card and Ornament will be presented to the family of Vernon Grant at the Museum of York County on Thursday, Nov. 17 at 10 a.m. The annual debut marks the museum’s 44th consecutive edition of the holiday card and the 36th edition of the ornament. The holiday ornament is funded in part by the O-T-S Media Group. The annual holiday card is made possible by Jan & David Angel, the Angel Foundation

The Vernon Grant Holiday Ornament and Card Debut is free to the public with light refreshments served from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. The holiday cards and ornaments are available for purchase at the Museum Store, which is always open for festive shopping opportunities during regular museum hours.

New interactive exhibit:

“Dream Home: Illustrations by Vernon Grant” is a new interactive exhibit now open at the Museum of York County through April 2023. The exhibit includes 15 original paintings in gouache on illustration board, along with a few reproductions on newsprint, that showcase Grant’s flair for imaginative storybook houses. “Dream Home: Illustrations by Vernon Grant” also provides an interactive drawing station where young artists can design their own ‘dream home’ on a postcard. The postcards can be placed in Glen the Frog’s mailbox, which is mounted on a fence in front of Glen’s mushroom house. Look for ‘dream home’ postcards to be featured on Museum of York County’s social media pages.

“Dream Home: Illustrations by Vernon Grant” is an exceptional occasion to view some of Grant’s original work. As a commercial illustrator, Grant created his artwork primarily to be reproduced in print for advertisements, magazines and books. “His preferred medium was gouache, which is highly susceptible to flaking and cracking if not properly cared for and stored in an environmentally controlled space,” explains Jillian Matthews Bingham, director of collections for Culture & Heritage Museums. “The fact that Vernon Grant’s estate of over 3000 artworks, items, and archival material was donated to CHM in 2006 gives the museum a unique opportunity to understand his creative process and career progression while also making it accessible to the public, when the exhibit space is environmentally safe to do so.”
