Settlemyre Planetarium at the Museum of York County

Come along with us as we journey out of this world and explore the Solar System and the Milky Way galaxy. The Settlemyre Planetarium, located in the Museum of York County, will be our spaceship as we travel from the fiery sun to the cold outer reaches of deep space.

Group rates are available for 15 students or more; please call 803.981.9182 to make reservations. Adults must accompany children.

Carolina Skies
All Ages
Each Saturday and Sunday we present our continually changing program Carolina Skies. We will take you on a tour of the current night sky and help you to identify bright constellations and planets, which adorn the skies above. See what’s up and how you can find constellations and planets for yourself. You too can become a night time naturalist as you learn your way around the celestial sphere.

Planet Patrol
Ages 7-12
Come along on a mission with Sam Snork and his assistant Elmo as they explore each planet in our Solar System from the frozen planet Pluto to the rock world of Mercury to the beauty of ringed Saturn.

Rusty Rocket
Ages 5-11
We will explore space and learn just how big outer spce really is! Our teacher, Rusty, will take a class and use everyday comparisons to explain size and distance in this rocket adventure.

Secret of the Cardboard Rocket
Ages 5-7
Use your imagination as two youngsters build a cardboard rocket and set off on an amazing voyage of exploration through the Solar System.

Space Bus
Ages 5-11
Join a school field trip of the 22nd century as we board the bus and explore the solar system. A special surprise awaits as we pass the planet Pluto.

Follow the Drinking Gourd
Ages 5-12
Learn how slaves in Alabama and Mississippi used the big dipper and a coded song to escape to Canada before the Civil War.

Planetquest
Ages 7- adult
Come aboard a starship of the future from a distant planet as we explore the galaxy for a new planet to colonize. We will travel through our solar system to discover which planet or planets may provide the necessities of life.

The Carolina Skygazers Astronomy Club
7:30 p.m., Museum of York County
The Carolina Skygazers astronomy club meets at the planetarium on the third Tuesday of each month September to May with the exception of December. Meetings start at 7:30 p.m. and are FREE and open to the public. Everyone is invited to attend. Some meetings have a formal presentation on an astronomy topic while others are informal gatherings with discussions among members. On many clear nights a telescope will be set up to view the more prominent objects visible that month.
