Carolina Piedmont Seminar Series • Sept. – Nov. 2019 

Beginning Astronomy I   •  September 17, 2019  •  6-8 pm                                     
Join Carole Holmberg, a NASA Solar System Ambassador, since 2001 and the Settlemyre Planetarium Manager at the Museum of York County in Rock Hill, South Carolina. She will guide us as we delve into the vocabulary of astronomy; tour our solar system; and encounter moons, comets, meteors and asteroids.

Beginning Astronomy II  •  October 15, 2019  •  6-8 pm
Blast off with Eric Newell, a member of the Carolina Skygazers, a local astronomy club, as we learn about our closest star the Sun. Discover nebulas, star clusters, black holes and amazing constellations in the sky! Weather permitting; we will use a telescope to view space.          

Beginning Astronomy III  •  November 19, 2019  •  6-8 pm
Tour the deepest parts of space with Mr. Jack Howard, a NASA Solar System Ambassador. In 2000, Jack started the astronomy program at Rowan-Cabarrus Community College in North Carolina, where he teaches physics and astronomy. Enjoy the journey as we look specifically at galaxies, dark matter, exo-planets, quasars and NASA current and future missions.

One-time fee includes all three Carolina Piedmont seminars. 
$25 • CHM Members, Volunteers, Teachers/Students with ID
$35 • Non-Members

Seminar fee includes all the book, A Crash Course in the Science of Space-Astronomy 101 by Carolyn Collins Petersen, all sessions and class notes.

Pre-registration and payment for all three sessions is required by September 3, 2019 at or 803-981-9182

Recommended for ages 12 and older. Note: York County, SC Educators may earn 2 CEU credits per seminar. Winthrop University may award one Cultural Credit per student per seminar attended.
