Songs of the War Between the States

Saturday, April 13, 2013: 11 am – 12 noon

McCelvey Center

York, SC ─ Spend an hour listening to lyrics and melodies of popular tunes from long ago with folksinger Philip Cheney as he plays five-string banjo and guitar at the McCelvey Center on Saturday, April 13 from 11am until noon.  Dressed in a Confederate uniform, Cheney will perform songs familiar to soldiers on both sides of the Civil War battlefields about food, Goober Peas and Hard Crackers, as well as ballads of lost love, Lorena and Annie Laurie.

Philip Cheney, Director of the Oconee County Public Library, has entertained local and community groups and schoolchildren in the upstate for over forty years.
