McCelvey Center’s 2017 Southern Sound Series to be announced at Kick-Off event


YORK, SC- The musical line-up for the 2017 Southern Sound Series will be announced on October 5 during a Kick-Off event at the McCelvey Center’s Lowry Family Theatre.  The free Kick-Off event will feature a live performance by Carolina Piedmont singer/songwriter David Childers and his band, the Serpents. Light refreshments will be provided.


WHAT: During the Oct. 5 Kick-Off event, the 2017 Southern Sound Series lineup will be announced through a multimedia presentation. Digital press kits will be available to the media and hot-off-the-press brochures will be available to regional tourism partners and general public. The Kick-Off event is free and open to the public.


WHO:  McCelvey Center’s Lowry Family Theater is a community venue managed by Culture and Heritage Museums (CHM) of York County, SC. CHM produces the annual Southern Sound Series, which is comprised of four concerts from January through April. Dedicated to providing the regional community with authentic contemporary performances, the Southern Sound Series showcases musical genres that are steeped in the multi-cultural origins of the Carolinas.

WHEN: The Kick-Off event is Wednesday, October 5 from 1:30 – 3 p.m.


About the McCelvey Center:

The McCelvey Center is the original site of the Yorkville Female Academy founded in 1852 and includes the 500-seat Lowry Family Theater. Noted for its remarkable acoustics, the historic theater has a lovely 1920s ambiance and hosts the annual Southern Sound Series and the Grand Ole McCelvey summer concert series. Facilities at the McCelvey Center, including the Lowry Family Theater, are available for rentals.
