Living History Saturday: Juneteenth
Join us for this Living History Saturday as we focus on Emancipation, the end of slavery in South Carolina, and the significance of Juneteenth as a national holiday.
On-going Activities:
• Historic cooking demonstration, featuring traditional Juneteenth recipes
• 25th Ohio Volunteers military demonstration. These were the Federal soldiers who occupied York County at the end of the Civil War and enforced emancipation.
• Quilting demonstration and “Make Your Own Quilt Square” hands-on activity
• Traditional banjo music with local musician Stephen Hardy
Timed Activities:
• Animal feeding (10:30 a.m.)
• “Juneteenth: The Hope of Emancipation” site tour (11 a.m. & 2 p.m.)
• Traditional cooking demonstration (Noon)
• Banjo music demonstration (1p.m.)
• 25th Ohio presentation and children’s militia drill (3 p.m.)
