The Battle of Huck’s Defeat

Step back in time to the sights and sounds of the American Revolution as we focus on the 250th anniversary of the American Revolution! Watch the annual Battle of Huck’s Defeat unfold 246 years later as you see the Carolina Piedmont’s role in the Southern Campaign, the fight for freedom, and how this battle was a crucial victory and turning point in the war!
The Battle of Huck’s Defeat takes place from 10 a.m. – 4 p.m. on July 11 and 12.
On-going Activities:
• Reenactor camps and 18th-century military interpretation
• “American Revolution: The Augmented Exhibition” (presented by the staff of the Charlotte Museum of History)
• 18th-century cooking
• Blacksmithing
• 18th-century toys and games
• “My Dearest Friend” letter-writing activity with pens and ink
• 18th-century Sutlers:

Timed Activities:
• 18th Century Church Service (10:30 a.m. Sunday, July 12 Only)
• Cavalry demonstration (11 a.m.)

• Keynote presentation: Lynn Heidelbaugh, Smithsonian National Postal Museum (Noon)
• Battlefield tours (10:30 a.m., 11:30 a.m., 12:30 p.m., 2:30 p.m., & 3:30 p.m.)
• Site/preservation tours (1 p.m. & 3 p.m.)
• Children’s militia drill (1:30 p.m. & 3:30 p.m.)
