It’s all about space and exploration of the universe at Museum of York County’s “Out of this World Family Day”

ROCK HILL, S.C. – Learning opportunities abound for earthlings of all ages at Museum of York County’s “Out of this World Family Day.” On Oct. 5, the museum sails through a galaxy of perspectives in understanding outer space and the ways the universe is explored.

Museum of York County staff will be stationed throughout the site with hands-on activities, crafts, and games to test your knowledge of objects in space. Learn about gravity and motion, and how light is filtered to make scientific observations in the universe. Make-and-take a Pocket Solar System. Study a model of the Lunar Module and design, build, and test your own spacecraft.

Meet Dr. Tatiana Niembro Hernández, an astrophysicist from the Smithsonian Astrophysical Observatory. During “Out of this World Family Day” she’ll be discussing her work at 11:30 a.m., 1:30 p.m., and 3:30 p.m. Niembro Hernández studies the atmosphere of the Sun and analyzes data from the Parker Solar Probe.

The featured Planetarium Show – “From Earth to the Universe” runs at 10:30 a.m., 12:30 and 2:30 p.m.

NASA artifacts recently transferred to Culture & Heritage Museums will be on display.

Telescopes will be setup for solar viewing outdoors at Museum of York County.
